Transparent Investment Management
November 19th, 2007
An associate of mine, Timothy Sykes, has just launched into an interesting quest. You may have heard of him before, as he gained notoriety by turning his Bar Mitzvah gift of $12,000 into $2 million on the markets, from 1999 to 2002. Some of his greatest successes during that time involved shorting (betting against) over-hyped penny stocks.
Well, now he's looking to do it again, and show you his trading moves every step of the way. While not limited only to penny stocks, I think it's definitely something for more active traders to check out, and subscribers of Peter Leeds Penny Stocks may enjoy following along on the journey.
If you want to learn more about his success with penny stocks and all levels of stocks for the matter, you can pick up a copy of his book "An American Hedge Fund", or visit TimothySykes.com.
The following is an excerpt from Timothy Sykes' "Transparent Investment

Management" (T.I.M.):
The financial markets are constantly evolving. In the 1980s and early 1990s, mutual funds became popular as people realized these funds made it easier for them to diversify their portfolios. But mutual funds were prohibited from using certain investment strategies, some of which were deemed too speculative. Investor profitability suffered as a result. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, hedge funds became popular as people realized these funds could pursue all investment strategies, no matter how speculative. But hedge funds were prohibited from advertising, talking to the press and anybody worth less than $1 million. Investor education suffered. Now, it’s time to take the next step in financial market evolution…
Meet TIM, or Transparent Investment Management. TIM is a new kind of fund that takes the best characteristics of the most evolved investment funds—that being hedge funds—and their ability to pursue all investment strategies, no matter how speculative, while at the same time, improving upon their many shortcomings, namely their inability to detail their businesses and strategies to the general public. Unlike other investment funds, profits are not TIM’s sole concern. Instead, TIM’s goal is to profit while also detailing all investment activity on TimothySykes.com, allowing the general public never-before-seen access to the investment process behind financial speculation. Due to the duality of TIM’s mission, the fund’s success will not be judged on performance alone, but on the educational and entertainment value of the commentary and investor community that it will nurture.
Since I believe even the smallest of investors should be allowed to learn about financial speculation, I will return to my Bar Mitzvah Gift Money roots of $12,415 with the goal of repeating my original feat of growing this amount into $1.65 million.
